GO HOME!!!!!!!
I'm sick of bigoted patriotism, and this time it is directed at Australians!
Australia has a very, very dark history in regards to racism and inequality (Aboriginals, Womens right to vote, civil rights, etc).
That is why it pains me to see copypasta reposts on Facebook, such as;
"WHAT A CROCK OF SH!T..... We can't say Merry Christmas now we have to say Happy Holidays. We can't call it a Christmas tree, it's now called a Holiday tree? Because it might offend someone. If you don't like our "Customs" and it offends you so much then GO HOME. I will help you pack. They are called customs and we have our Aussie traditions too. If you agree with this please post this as your status!! I AM A PROUD AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN... Do you have what it takes to repost this? MERRY CHRISTMAS to all"
Christmas is pretty much secular now, it is very materialistic in nature and feeds into the money driven and capitalistic society of most modern first world nations.
Most traditions that we associate with Christmas, aren't even Christian.
Lets set the record straight..
Australia, like America; Isn't a Christian nation.
It is a Christian majority nation.
Given that Australia is a federal parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy; I find it ironic that those who order others to leave the country are the 'real' Australians when a core Australian value is freedom and equality in a secular environment.
Welcome to democracy, where it stops the big majority voices, from silencing the small minority voices.
There are other groups in Australia which celebrate holidays at that time of year, and it is unconstitutional to be putting Christmas (A Christian holiday) on a pedestal.
'Happy Holidays' is more accepting to other religious holidays that happen around the same time.
It allows all Australians to celebrate together, rather than appease the majority and let the minority groups just "do their own thing".
People have to realise that they share this country with a lot of other people, with different views.
Just because someone adheres to Islam, doesn't mean that they aren't born in Australia.
Just because someone adheres to Judaism, doesn't mean that they aren't born in Australia.
Just because someone is Pagan, doesn't mean that they aren't born in Australia.
Even if they weren't born in Australia and did come from overseas, it doesn't mean they don't have a right to be here.
Seeking asylum is a Human Right, and Immigration is legal.
[If the immigrants were from the United Kingdom no one would have an issue, but if they were Muslim, there would definitely be public disapproval off the get go].
It's a disturbing though that some backward Australian citizens [such as the original author of the post] would wish bring Australia back to the days of the "White Australia Policy", where discrimination was rampant.
