Curve Ball #6 - Pascals Wager

Pascals Wager

We Atheists hear this argument all to much.
It is probably the most common argument
presented by everyday,
non-apologetic theists.

"What happens if you're wrong, and you go to hell?!
You should play it safe and just believe in god!
Whats to lose, in playing it safe?"

Next to the fact that this is completely unethical.
(In Theistic Fairy-Land, Lying is a sin.)

It's as though your trying to trick an
Omnipotent, Omnipresent being.
Which theoretically is impossible, by definition.

It also shows the fact that, you're willing to lie and be fake
even in the presence of something you deem to be all powerful.
In other words.. you're a slave.

All of this aside.

Mathematically, the ball is in our park.

See for an Atheist.
By definition, we have a 50:50 chance of being correct.

Either
There Is.
Or
There Isn't
a deity

But

For a Theist
50:50 is far from it.

Lets use some Algebra.

G x D: 1

Let G be The number of possible Deities (ever existing)

Let D be the number of denominations in the persons religion

Let X be the total of G & D for the ratio.

--------------------------------------------

Given that there is around

2812 different deities
(Extreme Minimum)

G = 2812

--------------------------------------------

For this argument i will pick Christianity
(as i hear this most commonly from them)

There is currently around 38,000
Christian Denominations.

= 38,000

--------------------------------------------

Now Lets use that Formula

2812 x 38000 = X

2812 x 38,000 = 106,856,000

--------------------------------------------

So if you are christian, you have a

1 in 106,856,000 of having the right god,
and then the right denomination.

Mind you, These calculations,
do not take into consideration Cults & Sects.

--------------------------------------------

So, if ever you are pestered by a theist
claiming that you're better off believing in fairies..

Show them the math.
